Title: Health & Safety Advisor Location: Nelson

Fitzgerald Construction is a well-established Nelson-based construction company delivering commercial, residential and specialist projects throughout the South Island.

 

As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a practical and motivated Health & Safety Advisor to join our team.

 

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with people, being out on site, and helping keep projects running safely and efficiently.

 

We’re not looking for someone to reinvent the wheel — we already have strong systems in place. What we need is someone who can help keep things moving, support our teams, maintain compliance requirements, and continue building a positive safety culture across the business.

About the Role

Based in Nelson, this role combines office-based administration with regular travel to sites throughout the Nelson/Marlborough region, while also supporting remote projects across the South Island.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Site audits and inspections

  • Toolbox meetings and site engagement

  • Site inductions

  • Incident investigations and reporting

  • Preparing SSSPs, SWMS and other safety documentation

  • Supporting tender and prequalification requirements

  • Subcontractor compliance management

  • Maintaining health & safety systems and accreditations

 

About You

You may already have health & safety experience, or you may come from a construction background and be looking to move into a dedicated H&S role.

 

The right attitude, communication skills and practical approach are just as important as formal qualifications.

Ideally you will have:

  • Construction industry experience or exposure

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • A proactive and practical mindset

  • Good computer and administration skills

  • A full NZ driver licence

 

Construction industry experience will be valued more highly than formal qualifications.
